It’s been a while since we spent any significant time at the plot: the December snow and intensely cold weather meant that there was nothing that could be done. The raspberry canes arrived and had to be potted up in the conservatory as the ground was frozen solid. And then there was the Christmas and New Year slothfulness.
Today I went down to clear some rubbish that won’t burn – wet, soily couch grass roots mainly – and cart it off to the tip.
The ground has thawed out now – it’s turned quite mild – so hopefully in a day or two we can get the canes planted.
Remarkably, despite the mercury having dropped to as low as -17C before Christmas, an area of the plot was carpeted with new green shoots of some kind of weed that I can’t yet identify.
